The result is an edition that's clean and unfussy, refreshingly uncluttered by superfluous grace-notes or odd-looking demi-semiquaver ornaments ... Bartlett's edition, however, makes it perfectly possible to reconstruct the 1742 Dublin, 1743 London, or 1750 revised Messiah, according to taste, which should afford music directors hours of innocent fun. The Singer December 98 The players loved the parts - clear and clean, and I loved the edition; almost everyone in the Hall (the sell-out audience of 1200+ and all the performers) had a marvellous evening ... If you're going to conduct it, use this score.

I am a young conductor researching possibilities of putting on a concert of Messiah and I checked out this version of the full score from the library. If I do perform the work, this is the score I'm going to use, primarily because a) the score is very clean and easy to read, and allows the conductor to make markings/notes in the margins, and b) there is an excellent critical commentary within this score as well, which can help explaining the work to others or creating program notes.
I know that Dover produces more affordable full scores of large works, but they always voice the strings in a funky way (i.e. using alto/soprano clefs instead of the treble/bass format) and they sometimes don't have any commentary. But Bartlett's work here really is something to applaud, as it makes this tremendous piece more accessible to more musicians.

Exceptional edition. Strings only, with suggestions where winds should play, as Handel indicated.
