Leon Castner, ISA CAPP AAA, Ph.D. Leon Castner has been an appraiser for over thirty years. He grew up in the auction business in northern New Jersey and worked as runner, cashier, trucker, auction manager, and eventually president and chief auctioneer. Leon served as President of The New Jersey State Society of Auctioneers and was named Auctioneer of the Year. His company regularly held over 50 auctions per year. Leon joined forces with Brian Kathenes in the early 1990’s establishing NAC (National Appraisal Consultants, LLC). Leon travels across the country still appraising as Senior Partner and serves as expert witness in many appraisal methodology and procedure cases. Brian G. Kathenes, ISA, CAPP Brian Kathenes is a professional appraiser, radio talk-show host and TV personalty. He is the of 'Value This! with Brian and Leon', WRNJ’s weekly call-in antiques and collectibles talk show. He and his business partner, Leon Castner, share antique tips, take listeners’ calls, and answer questions on all types of antiques and collectibles. Brian is also the Managing Partner of National Appraisal Consultants, a firm specializing in personal property appraisal consulting, appraisal theory, and litigation support. He is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property in Autographs, Manuscripts & Historical Documents, and specializes in all types of collectibles. Brian is the past Chairman of the International Society of Appraisers Ethics Committee. His clients include: Disney /MGM Studios, Chubb Insurance, U.S. Department of the Treasury/IRS, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, The National Museum of American Jewish History, and The Ronald Reagan Museum at Eureka College. A new angle and a great read

Pacific Eldorado combines a colorful and highly readable history of California with an innovative interpretation of the region and state. Influenced by today's global interconnections, scholars have called for more globally informed and embedded accounts of America's past. Books and courses on the Atlantic World are now being supplemented by research on the Pacific Rim that challenges the dominant east-west narrative of American history. Osborne's textbook focuses this new lens on California, bringing to light new maritime connections and making us see older inland contexts anew. His book is the first text to produce a sweeping backstory for the Pacific shift in America's trade relations and to place California's long history in its wider geographic, demographic, and political settings. It's a great read and a real achievement.

If you want to read what made California great and a leader in the world economy

Pacific Eldorado is a gripping book within the context of living in California and the world at large. The very title is intriguing and Thomas Osborne leaves no doubt about the vibrant and exciting history of California that came about with the global connections of the maritime world. Quite a fascinating and historical viewpoint that I had not hitherto read much about but which defines California, the Golden State. If you want to read what made California great and a leader in the world economy, then this is the book for you. It has a clear and readable quality for a non-scholarly person like me and in every chapter I was easily transported into another place and time. There is nothing laborious or drawn-out about this wonderful narrative. The layout of the book is superb and I particularly liked the shaded introductory overview of each chapter, it immediately set the scene and drew me in. With all its heroism, inequity, exploitation and adventure it is history which we can all identify with, and which ultimately becomes The California Dream for all of us.

I love California history

I love California history, so it was natural for me to pick up Pacific Eldorado and read it. I enjoyed the fact that the author provided profiles of fascinating characters who gave some life to our state's history. For example, profiling Alfred Kroeber and his work with the Yahi, and his efforts with Ishi was very informative. Also, the fact that the author provided such detail on the voyages of the Spanish to California addressed a part of California history that is not well understood by many in our state. I thought his use of timelines for each chapter was helpful to the reader. I would continually refer back to them as I was reading the book. Finally, I thought he address the social history of our state in a balanced manner. California's history with minorities surely is an ongoing process of change and assimilation, and the author does a good job of presenting this. I liked this book a lot. It is very easy to read and digest, and describes how to create and deliver “just enough” end-to-end solution architectures. This book is clearly aimed at solution architects, but I would also recommend this to any project managers, business analysts or developers involved in systems or software delivery, and who sometimes wonder what on earth “the architects” are doing. If you are on the receiving end of an architecture solution being delivered by a 3rd party, then this book would be an excellent reference for you to challenge the delivery approach, the type and quantity of architectural artefacts that you are being billed for.

McFarlane is AWESOME !!!! A dark, frightening look at the more disturbing regions of Spider-man's universe.

Spider-man : Masques collects several issues from Todd McFarlane's Spider-man series from the early 1990's.
Lots of AWESOME stuff here !!
Spider-man : Masques collects issues #6, #7, #13, #14, and #16 of McFarlane's Spider-man series and also throws in X-Force # 4 (which connects with Spider-man # 16).
There is some magnificent material here.
All of McFarlane's stories are very dark and wonderfully told. McFarlane's artwork is enchanting and fantastic.

The first story arc is from issues #6 and #7 of McFarlane's Spider-man series and it is called "Masques".
In this story, a frightening, yet masterfully drawn Hobogoblin has gone insane. During this era of Spider-man comics, Hobgoblin (Jason Macendale) turned into a REAL Hobgoblin after asking a demon named N'astirh for more power.
As this book begins, Hobgoblin has already been turned into a true Hobgoblin (back in Spectacular Spider-man # 147) but McFarlane takes the character to the next level. Hobgoblin is VERY frightening looking in this book and you get to see just how insane and homicidal he is now becoming. The Hobgoblin is murdering innocent people, but in his mind he is doing it because they are sinners ..... and he feels justified. You'll soon find out his warped reasoning goes even deeper than that.

The material in this book is very dark and mysterious. As Hobgoblin grows more and more insane, Ghost Rider is thrown into the story and wants vengeance against Hobgoblin for spilling innocent blood. Spider-man also gets thrown in as he must try to stop Hobgoblin's reign of terror. However, things get rather complicated when Hobgoblin throws a very innocent little boy into his demented plans.......

The second story arc is from issues #13 and #14 of McFarlane's series and it is called "Sub-city". Just like the first story arc with Hobgoblin, Ghost Rider, and the little boy, this second story arc is very dark and majestic. The villain in this second story arc is Morbius (the living vampire)and his new army of underlings called "The Good Ones". The "good ones" are grotesque, violent, and disturbed. They live underground and prefer the darkness. They refer to surface dwellers as "The Bad Ones". When the "good ones" (the grotesque under dwellers) begin to wreck havoc on the "bad ones" (that would be us on the surface world) Spider-man must step in. However, all is NOT as simple as it appears.

During this story, Spider-man is forced to wear a black costume. It's NOT the symbiote black outfit (this story was published a few years after Spider-man's original symbiotic black outfit would join with Eddie Brock and become Venom). However, it is a new black Spider-man outfit that Spider-man must wear if he even hopes to stand a chance against Morbius and the so-called "good ones" in their underground lair. Several people from the surface have been kidnapped by the "good ones". Will Spider-man rescue them in time? Or will Spider-man discover something even more sinister than he had hoped to find?

The final story arc in this collection is from McFarlane's Spider-man #16 and X-Force # 4 and is called "Sabotage". This is Todd McFarlane's FINAL Spider-man work before leaving Marvel comics and forming Image comics(with the other Image comics founders) and introducing Spawn.

Anyway, the Sabatoge story arc centers around the villain known as the Juggernaut. As soon as the first page of the story begins, Spider-man notices that one of the tops of the world trade center has been blown up (NOTE : This story was published in 1992, nine years before September 11th, 2001). X-Force (a mutant hero team lead by Cable) had attempted to stop a super-villian from detonating a bomb. As soon as the first page to this story begins, you'll see that they failed miserably. Cable and the rest of the X-Force team up with Spider-man to attempt to stop Juggernaut. Not to give too much of the story away, but things get VERY violent and out of control. Especially when the Juggernaut (laughing like an insane maniac) purposely crashes into one of the twin towers. After that, things get REALLY out of control.

The FINAL part of the Sabatoge story is from X-Force # 4 and concludes the Sabatoge story arc. Written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn by Rob Liefeld, the final part of Sabatoge is action packed and an awesome conclusion.

Overall, this is a FANTASTIC collection !!!
While Sabotage is a great action packed story, my two favorites in this collection are Masques and Sub-city. Both those stories are VERY well written and some of my all time favorites.
I highly recommend this collection to anyone who wants a series of dark Spider-man stories.
Todd McFarlane did a GREAT job writing and drawing these stories.
I highly recommend reading all of them in Spider-man : Masques.

Pre-Spawn McFarlane

Todd McFarlane's run on Spider-Man has always been my personal favorite, even over his Spawn series. This book contains the last issues of his run and an issue pencilled by Rob Liefield. Could do without the Liefield, but that issue was part two of a story. After this, McFarlane, Liefield and many others went on to found Image Comics where Spawn made his premiere. A staple of 90's comics.

HC edition, collecting McFarlane issues 6, 7, 13, 14 & 16, there's an extra issue of X-Force # 4, the paper quality and reprint are pristine since ISBN 978-0-7851-5943-8 is a premiere edition, this edition has a dust cover with a nice red metal lettering and gloss black body finish. Issues 16 & X-Force # 4 are presented on landscape format a nice extra on early 90's, the issue has no extras but does have 3 repainted covers and an extra page for something call "The eyes have it!, want to know what it is ? go for it!, this is a must have collector book.

Through a close analysis of the structural strategies of Bharavi's poem, the author illuminates the aesthetic of the mahakavya genre. Peterson demonstrates that the classical poet uses figurative language, rhetorical devices, and structural design as the primary instruments for advancing his argument, the reconciliation of heroic action, ascetic self-control, social duty, and devotion to God. Her discussion of the Kiratarjuniya in relation to its historical setting and to renderings of this epic episode in literary texts and temple sculpture of later periods reveals the existence of complex transactions in Indian civilization between the discourses of heroic epic and court poetry, political ideologies and devotional religion, Sanskrit and the regional languages, and classical and folk traditions. Selections from the Kiratarjuniya are presented in poetic translation."
