An excellent Star Wars short story. a MUST READ for fans of The Clone Wars!!!

This was my favorite of these 4 short stories. Ever since I first saw the Crimson Corsair in the Vanity Fair spread, I thought he looked cool. I wanted to know more about him. This story follows him and his crew in a race across a desert planet against other pirates searching for a lost treasure. Captain Sidon Ithano, as he is also known, is an awesome character. There's a toy coming out of him and his first mate that I think will be one of the few The Force Awakens figures I actually buy.

This story has it all. Like a lot of the new canon, it takes inspiration from all the Star Wars films and tv shows. It even starts with a Hondo quote! Fans of The Clone Wars tv series MUST read this!

I found myself using wookiepedia to get accurate ideas of what the characters looked like. The Ortolan pirate known as One-Eye is such a cool image.

The chapters are very small, which made it very easy to read. This story is full of adventure as well as comedy. I love when Star Wars stories make allusions to classic lines and such in creative ways. I never had a bad feeling about this book while I was reading it.

I give this short story a 5/5. I want more! I am so much more intrigued by the character of the Crimson Corsair. I want to follow his crew on many more adventures. I really hope Landry gets to continue writing their stories.

This short story was truly a joy to read. It's exactly the kind of fun, rich, exhilarating Star Wars story that works really well just weeks before the release of a new film. It succeeds in getting the reader invested in the characters sure to roam the halls of Maz Kanata's castle, provoking the imagination in just the right way. It's a pirate story, a treasure hunt story, and a high-speed chase story all within the framework of Star Wars. What's not to like? It's worth the read, the re-read, and the handoff to a friend.

A really fun Star Wars short story. The Crimson Corsair as a bad ass and he, along with at least one of his crew members, will be in the upcoming film; and by the looks of it, the Captain looks to be somewhat of a significant character. Therefore, I would read this solely just to become somewhat acclimated to a small part of the new movie. Also, if you're a fan of the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" TV series, there's a nice little treat for you within. Great read!

I am an APO Professional working in SAP APO environment for more than twelve years. It gives me immense pleasure to write in recommendation of this book considering the subject and practical approach demonstrated with examples in the demand planning.

The outcome of this book, originates with authors’ extensive subject competence gained through years in Information Technology and SAP Business Consulting world in conjunction with their Industry experience.
The book begins by discussing key aspects of SCM along with SCM solutions supporting an integrated supply chain management framework that improve supply chain performance. The book very well articulates Basic and advanced concepts in APO Demand Planning (DP) and Business warehouse (BW) in connection with ERP Configuration. The Consumer product company business scenarios depict a real life business example, which will help the reader understands the subject with a ‘Business touch’.

This book is awesome and recommend for anyone who wants to start career in APO - DP and good for everyone.

This book is awesome. In fact, it’s more than just a book as it’s bound to become my companion. This book certainly sets a benchmark as to how SAP APO DP should be communicated and implemented.
Authors have done a splendid work in bringing a fine balance of concepts, business rationale and the hands-on approach to learn as well as implement APO DP. The unique process flow diagram is mind blowing that consolidates the entire DP. I have never come across such innovations in book. The diligent and detailed methods in which the screen shots are explained are equally great. This book also sets a very wonderful context of SCM, SAP SCM, SAP APO where DP fits in. Overall the book is full of business examples, diagrams, step-by-step screen shots and a holistic approach in APO DP.
I am more than sure to derive repeat value out of this book.
This book not only has the potential to create APO DP professionals but also will enrich the knowledge of existing APO DP professionals.
I am looking forward to purchase their sequel book, as well.

About the Author
Karin C. Ryding is Sultan Qaboos bin Said Professor Emerita of Arabic linguistics at Georgetown University. She was dean of Interdisciplinary Programs at Georgetown for three years, and headed Arabic training at the State Department's Foreign Service Institute from 1980 to 1986. She was president of the American Association of Teachers of Arabic (AATA), and has served on the executive committee of the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (ADFL) as well as on the executive council of the Modern Language Association (MLA). In 2008, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from AATA as well as the Distinguished Service Award from the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics of Georgetown University.

Wild birds are counted for a wide variety of reasons and by a bewildering array of methods. However, detailed descriptions of the techniques used and the rationale adopted are scattered in the literature, and the newcomer to bird census work or the experienced bird counter in search of a wider view, may well have difficulty in coming to grips with the subject as a whole. While not an end in itself, numerical and distributional census work is a fundamental part of many scientific and conservation studies, and one in which the application of given standards is vital if results are not to be distorted or applied in a misleading way.
This book provides a concise guide to the various census techniques and to the opportunities and pitfalls which each entails. The common methods are described in detail, and illustrated through an abundance of diagrams showing examples of actual and theoretical census studies. Anyone planning a census of birds in the wild should be able to select the method best suited to the study in hand, and to apply it to best effect within the limits inherent in it and the constraints of the particular study.
The first edition was immensely successful in setting the standard for sound bird census work in the 1990's. Here, four authors, each with their own relevant experience, have pooled their knowledge to produce this extensively revised second edition ofBird Census Techniques . An entirely new chapter covers the census methods recommended for tropical habitats with inhospitable field conditions and many species of birds, and all other chapters are updated to take account of recent developments in the field, in particular links between bird census studies and Environmental Impact Assessments.

About the Author
Colin Bibby is Director of Science and Policy at the International Council for Bird Preservation where he is interested in the role of birds as indicators for global biodiversity conservation. While Head of Conservation Science at the Royal Society for the Protection of birds, he was a co-author of Red Data Birds in Britain. In both capacities, he has been struck by the small number of birds of conservation concern which have been counted adequately. He has counted birds in Britain and Europe, as a professional, as an amateur participant, and as an organizer of surveys for the British Trust for Ornithology. He was motivated to start this book by the belief that bird-watchers would contribute more to conservation if they put more effort into counting birds, but lack of guidance on methods was a handicap.

Neil Burgess completed a B.Sc. in Botany and a Ph.D. in Palaeobotany (evolution of the earliest land plants), after which he started work at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. He worked on reserves and in the headquarters in Sandy on the management of habitats for birds. During this time the main work on the first edition of Bird Census Techniques was completed. In 1990 he became more involved with African conservation and biodiversity research through project management in the Africa Section of the International Department of the RSPB, and as Research Director of the Society for Environmental Exploration. Most of his work concentrated on tropical forest and wetland habitats in Africa and Southeast Asia, including ornithological surveys. He moved to the Danish Center for Tropical Biodiversity at the University of Copenhagen in 1994 to coordinate and develop programs aiming to map the distribution of biodiversity in Africa. He also worked as International Project Development Officer for the Danish Ornithological Society in 1995-1998. He has maintained an interest in ornithological survey work in Europe, but has moved increasingly into project management work in the tropics and Eastern Europe mainly through setting up and managing programs to assess biodiversity values and to undertake practical conservation actions.

David Hill is Chief Executive of Ecoscope Applied Ecologists which was established in 1992 to provide research and consulting services in ecology to both the public and private sectors in the UK and overseas. Much of Ecoscope's work involves the use of quality survey methods, many based on those described in this book. These methods are becoming increasingly important as standards for environmental assessment and he is actively involved in developing and setting practice standards for survey and evaluation within the profession. David Hill received his doctorate in bird ecology from the Edward Grey Institute of Field Ornithology at the University of Oxford in 1982 after which he moved to the Game Conservancy and later, as Senior Ecologist, to the RSPB. Much of this work involved studies of marked birds, their behavior and habitat preferences in relation to land use. In addition, he set up experiments and monitoring studies on RSPB reserves which brought him into close contact with sampling different bird species and habitats. In 1989 he became Director of Development at the British Trust for Ornithology with responsibility for setting up and running research contracts on estuaries, farmland, woodland and uplands using the methods outlined in this book. He has published a number of books and numerous papers on bird population ecology, habitat ecology and conservation, ecological assessment and mitigation. What started as a passion at the age of five has provided a rewarding career. He hopes this book, in giving to others tools to count birds, will engage enthusiasm and provide a similar reward to many, whilst at the same time yielding essential information for conservation.

Simon Mustoe is a research consultant with Ecoscope Applied Ecologists. He graduated in ecology from the University of East Anglia in 1995 after which he led a multi-national team of researchers to Madagascar as part of an integrated conservation development project, part funded by the BirdLife/FFI/BP Conservation Program. He has worked both as a bird researcher at the RSPB and as an assistant to the African Important Bird Areas (IBA) project at BirdLife International. Simon specializes in ornithological assessments, being familiar with a wide range of different methods and having worked in a range of situations as diverse as tropical forests and the Northeast Atlantic. His experience of modern methods of large scale surveys using distance sampling, led to his being involved in the important task of bringing these chapters up to date.

Nice intro into ecological censusing for beginners/amateurs

As someone who has worked with the public to do bird conservation, I have found this book to be helpful in helping to explain the techniques & issues that scientists face when doing ecological censusing.
Other than the fact that most of the species that are mentioned are Old World species (a moot point since the topics & techniques are universal), this is a good book. One thing I would like to see, is a North American version that uses examples based on New World species, & how these censuses & projects relate to our conservation laws in the U.S. The authors make mention of several British or European laws dealing with habitat conservation and restoration. It would be interesting to see U.S. examples based on our laws.
Overall, a good read for anyone getting into citizen-based bird science & conservation, or introductory-level college ecology students.

This is an extremely useful guide to anyone thinking about doing a serious bird count. I myself have counted birds on many habitats and for many reasons, and I had to review a large number of papers before adopting a counting method. Standard reference

This book is probably the standard reference for bird census techniques. It's the first that I consult when planning a field study, with good summaries of the pros and cons of different methods. I feel that some of the recommendations are more relevant to summer breeding censuses in the northern hemisphere, however, where forest passerines are strongly territorial and density is a meaningful concept.

The binding is poor, made in England. It's a rather compact book and costs a considerable sum of money, but Bird Census Techniques is a reference that any serious field ornithologist must have.

As a reader of French, you will find much of value in the manner of translation, the phrasing and information available throughout this tome. As a reader of knots you will find this book highly enlightening for your bookshelf, in that the knot-tying information gives you many hints to the origins of some knotting terms. Ashley's book is filled with so many anecdotes about knotting that this really becomes a history book, an instruction book, and now a French language book all rolled into one. Try it - I did, and found it absolutely fascinating! Bonne chance!

Better crochet books are available

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this isn't a book for beginners and possibly not even for experience crocheters. To start with, the author explains how to do various crochet stitches. For a chain stitch she says, "To make a chain stitch, you need to bring the yarn over the hook from the back to the front. Then you will draw it through the two loops on the hook to make a single loop." Hmmmm....where did the two loops on the hook come from? She failed to explain that you need to start the chain with a slip knot. Also as an experience crocheter, I can tell you that you draw the yarn through "one" loop on the hook not "two" loops for a chain stitch. For a double crochet stitch she says, "The first step is to make a chain 14 and a slip knot." I hope she meant that you make a slip knot and then chain 14 stitches because I'm not sure what you'd get if you end the row with a slip knot. Her terminology is not what I'm accustom to seeing either. She says to "raise the yarn with a turning chain and turn the work counterclockwise." Normal crochet instructions would say "chain one and turn."

I haven't tried any of the scarf patterns but they might be doable if you can translate her odd directions in some of the patterns. The second pattern, a spiral net boa-ruffle scarf, starts with these directions: 1) Before you start, inspect your yarn. The top portion is net, regardless of the size, and there may be a decorative border at the bottom. You will use the top holes for this pattern. (I'm guessing she jumped from talking about the yarn to describing the scarf and I "think" she meant the top "loops" of the crochet stitches, as opposed to the entire stitch, not the top "holes.") She goes on to step two.. 2) "First, tie the knot and overhand at the beginning then insert your hook on the top loop that is closest to the knot. Create a chain by skipping one loop and picking up the next. Repeat this for five times until you make six chains." (I'm guessing she meant you should tie an overhand knot and pull the yarn through one of the loops in the knot. "Normal" instructions would say "Make a slip knot and chain 6." Also, you create chain stitches by pulling the yarn through each previous loop not by skipping loops. Since the "chain" is the row that starts the project, there aren't any loops to skip until you chain them so I'm really not sure what loops she's skipping and picking up.) Pattern 3, skinny scarf, starts with "Make a slip knot and start a foundation chain." This one looks like a normal crochet pattern. It's almost like two different people wrote this book.

As other reviewers have said, there isn't a single picture in the book. It's very difficult to tell by a "name" and set of instructions what a crochet pattern will look like when it's finished. I'm not willing to waste my time and yarn without having some idea what the finished project will look like. I'm glad this book was free. Needless to say, I'll be deleting it from my Kindle.

Huge Disappointment........

Without pictures these directions at least for me where impossible to follow.. I'm completely clueless on what they are supposed to look like!! Her other book though was short and sweet at least had a picture of what the finished items looked like!! So needless to say this book is a waste of time even if you get it for free!! Perhaps an experienced crochet would be able to unravel this..Beginners avoid period!
