For what it is, it's good

I bought this book for our organization at the recommendation of one of my superiors. I personally find it extremely confusing and overwhelming but that's because I can find codes much easier using a smartphone app. For those who need a physical copy of an ICD coder book to keep on site, this is a good one..

The Europeans who crossed the Atlantic brought with them conventions about family life that endured long after their migration. Their children inherited beliefs and practices that defined the roles appropriate to each member; a network of communal institutions reinforced the pressures that induced each to play the assigned part. Religion, education, and the law sustained the expectations of what a father, a mother, a husband, a wife, and children should be and do. In 1776 the family of the New World was, in many ways, what it had been in the Old.

Yet the circumstances of life in a wilderness generated subtle forces of change. Though Massachusetts was several generations away from the frontier, it was more remote still from London and had developed in a fashion of its own, so that husbands, wives, and children in that province stood toward one another in a relationship not precisely the same as that in England.

Abigail Adams in her life exemplified what it meant to be a woman, an American, and a revolutionary of the transitional period between colonial status and independence. Her aspirations were not precisely the same as those either of her seventeenth-century ancestors or of nineteenth- and twentieth-century descendants. The role she defined for herself as a woman was that of a wife, but a role entirely the equal of her husband's —not the same but equal. As an American she discovered the uniqueness of her nation's ideas, conventions, and habits of behavior by contrast with those of the women of London and Paris. And as participant in the Revolution she explored the meaning of the ways in which the new woman of the New World would stand beside its new man. Articulate and introspective, she recorded in detail the exciting incidents that crowded her long life. Her records provided the materials for this book.

Professor Akers was fortunate in his choice of a subject; Abigail Adams was fortunate in a biographer whose sensitive account brings her to life.

Adverage Read with Interesting Facts

Akers does a great job of placing the information from Abigail's letters into a story, without directly quoting the letters line by line. A story is presented to the reader through the eyes of the First Lady. It was a required text for an American History class, though I did enjoy reading it. The story itself; however, can be deeply depressing while still communicating the accounts of the famous political family. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about the other side of politics.

I couldn't read it through and through, this is definitely for history nuts. I've never liked reading about people's lives. She was definitely an extraordinary woman, but I just wish the book was written in an excitable tone. The pages just seemed to drag on. I needed this for history class, and was happy after I was done with it. The actually book I got arrived on time, and it was really good quality.

I read this for a history course. It is actually a very nice book. It is nice to see a feminine angle of someone so close to politics in the time of infancy for America. I was gladly surprised by some very nice viewpoints and moral outlooks that Abigail had.l

A good start on the big business picture.

One of the concepts the Rich Dad series has taught me, and you see this throughout the free enterprise system, is that "he who creates the investment gets most of the gold".

Bill Gates. Warren Buffett. The real estate developer next door turning five acres into a small strip mall, or an apartment complex.

This book shows how it's done. From concept, to trademarking and patenting, to incorporating, to raising the funds, everything short of filing the IPO is included, albeit briefly. But that's OK, you'll need your own attorneys and professionals to customize these parts for your application, anyway. Just don't cut any corners.

Michael gives you examples throughout the book as to how the process should work... and a few examples of what happens when you cut corners. (it can get ugly at this level, gang!)

My title says it all: this book is very repetitve, boring, basic and has not much beyond common sense.

The repetition in the book is used to fill up pages and make an easy buck for Lechter, who is Rich Dad's patent attorney. Way to select your authors, Rich Dad.

Good starting point......

OPM (Other People's Money), part of the Rich Dad series, focuses specifically on how to obtain other people's money in order to grow your business. This book is one of the beefier books in the Rich Dad series and also starts to focus on specific techniques rather than conceptual ideas.

Author Michael A. Lechter starts off by describing what OPM is, gives a listing of the different types available, and explains the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Michael then writes about how one can attract OPM through strengthening different aspects of the business. Finally the book finishes with an in-depth description of each type of OPM including where to look for it, the motivation of the people giving you the money, how to avoid pitfalls and different preparation techniques.

This book is a welcome change to the Rich Dad series as it gives more specific advice. However, there still is a lot of subject material that is out of the scope of the book so be prepared to read additional material. This book is an excellent starting point for the beginning entrepreneur, but the experienced business owner will likely find this book to be elementary.

Michael Lechter's writing style is concise but can be a bit dry... but you expect that from a lawyer. I stopped counting the number of times he plugged his other books. Once is fine but Michael points it out so many times that it got annoying. Finally the material is suited for an American audience only, so if you aren't opening a corporation in the United States, this book might not be for you.

Regardless, this book is a good starting point in the hunt for OPM. 4 out of 5 stars.

From 'Old School' to Tech Savvy

I read Transpharmation is a way to look into how a very 'old school' industry is coming to terms with the 'new media' way of doing business. I'm all about brick 'n mortar to tech-savvy business owner and Sztar has done a great job in bridging that gap for the reader, while at the same time making the 'move', 'change', or whatever you want to call... it an easy to grasp possibility.

Although I'm not personally in the pharmacy industry, as an ex-brick 'n mortar business owner, turned tech-savvy entrepreneur, I know what works and what doesn't. This book covers you, and more.

Very grateful pathology resident

This is a fantastic book for pathology residents -- so much so that I'd even say it's essential for any resident looking to get a basic overview of how coag works in the lab (especially for those in a program where CP is mostly self-taught). Although $63 may seem relatively expensive for a 237 page small paperback book, I must say that this book has been worth every dollar. This book really gets to the point of how each common (and even some less common) assay works -- from the test principle to what reagents are added (a basic overview, NOT a tedious detailed cookbook of reagent concentrations and steps at the bench) to how to interpret results to pitfalls in assay results to the clinical context and what results mean for the patient and how clinician's should order tests. This book is very readable, well written, organized, and engaging (well, if you have at least a mild interest in CP that is). Whenever I received questions while on-call regarding coag results or what tests to order from other clinicians, I could almost always find the answer and explanation quickly just by looking in this book. Truly a great resource that I would recommend to all AP/CP or CP residents starting out. I am not yet at the point in my training where I have to take boards, so I can't speak on that aspect, but in terms of addressing practical day-to-day issues and general intro to coag, this book has been great.

I will be sure to thank Drs. Bennett, Lehman, Rodgers, Blaylock and Cat Thompson if I ever see them at any upcoming CAP, USCAP, or ASCP meetings.

Very nice pocket-sized text book

Rarely have I seen in a pocket-sized book such a thorough examination of all the pre-analytical factors that interfere with the laboratory measurements. Also worth reading is the chapter concerning the 'Validation of Coagulation Assays', as it approaches a subject that most textbooks often ommit and leave to the every-day practise.
I highly recommend it to all pathologists, even though it is rather expensive.

Attacking Soccer

Tired of soccer books that are full of drills to improve a players individual skills but lacking any ideas for game tactics? This book is a good mixture of strategies, tactics and related drills. Each chapter is by a different author that discuss various tactics and then presents several drills to reinforce the tactic. Tactics include "Playing Out of the Defending Third", "Creating Opportunities in the Attacking Third"' "Possession Soccer". Fourteen chapters in all, each with a different theme. A must book for the serious coach of age levels 12 and above.

This volume has some nice concepts to improve soccer tactics, but is nothing spectacular. A rather light read, containing limited examples of the various general tactics discussed. Many of the drills presented are contained in other books which offer more indepth discussion.

Great drills to work on specific concepts

This book offers 150 tactical and skill-specifc drills that any coach will benefit from. The chapters are broken into attacking concepts such as "Attacking the Flanks" and "Changing the Point of Attack" with a great table of contents/drill finder. While the concepts themselves are not discussed in-depth, the exhaustive and clearly-explained volume of drills more than makes up for the limited examination of attacking soccer. Each drill has simple instructions and large, easy-to-read diagrams. The bottom line is that there are lots of drills in this book that will make your team better. Luxbacher is a drill genius, and most of the names in the book are well-recognized in the coaching community.
